This vintage cowboy hat was made in the mid to late 1950s by Bailey hats under their “B Bar B” western line. It is made of high quality 3X fur felt. Please remember that the X rating system has inflated grossly over the past half-century, and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. This is very nice felt. It is trimmed with a two cord band, and has a raw edge brim. The hat has a brown leather sweatband, stamped with the Bailey logo. It was sold in Bozeman, Montana by Wagner’s.

1940s Adam Homburg

This vintage homburg was made by the Adam hat company in the late 1940s. It is gray fur felt, with a black ribbon and wind string and a bound brim. The hat has a brown leather sweatband, marked “Adam Executive, Cushioned for Comfort”, and “A product of Adam – America’s famous hatter”. The hat has a fancy pleated lining with the Adam logo. The size tag also bears the Adam name, and indicates that it is a 7-1/4, though it seems to have shrunk slightly. The hat has a center dent and front pinches. Despite the formal reputation that hats like this now have, at the time, they were worn in a variety of situations, from casual to semi-formal. The pinches dress the hat down a bit.

Stetson Stratoliner

This vintage fedora was made by the John B. Stetson company in the 1950s. It is their legendary “Stratoliner” model, named after the Boeing 307 Stratoliner airplane. The model was similar to Stetson’s “Open Road”, but with slightly more flange to the brim. While the Open road was marketed with more western iconography, the Stratoliner was sold as a modern, sporty hat. This one was made with fur felt of the “Royal” designation. It has a brown leather sweatband, with Stetson’s 1950s crest. It has a three color liner logo, which indicates a date of manufacture towards the end of the decade. This hat was sold by Cronin-Peterson Men’s Wear of Rochester, Minnesota. It still has the original price tag on the sweatband.

This vintage cap was made in the 1930s. It is marked “Fashion Club DeLuxe”, and that it has a waterproof peak. It is made of a heavyweight brown wool tweed. The sweatband has dropped most of the stitches.

This vintage cap was made in the 1950s. Another from the lot of the same cut and style had Penney’s Big Mac tags on it, but this one is unbranded It is brown corduroy, with furry ear flaps inside, and cord flaps on the outside.

This vintage cap was made in the 1930s or 1940s. The cap was sold by The Hub, Harry R. Hirschowitz and Bros., Wilkes Barre, PA. It is made of “Imported Linen”, probably Irish, and is a 7-1/4.

This vintage cap was made in the 1930s or 1940s. It is made of a lightweight cotton tattersall material, with a ventilated mesh front panel. It has a brown leather sweatband. The liner is marked “Comfort Fit in the American Manner”. The sweatband is still nicely supple.

1950s Resistol Italian Milan porkpie

This vintage hat was made in the 1950s. The milan straw body was made in Italy, and it was finished and sold by Resistol. It has porkpie styling, with a wide grosgrain ribbon, with a back bow. This style was popular for a period in the mid to late 1950s. Despite being marked a 7-1/4, the hat has shrunk and measures and fits as a 7-1/8.

1920s Stetson raw edge homburg

This vintage hat was made in the early 1920s by the John B. Stetson company. It is an interesting transitional style. At the time this was sold, it probably would have been designated as a fedora style – at that point, “fedora” had a broader definition. It has a curled edge brim- the same curl used on Boss Raw Edge westerns of the period – this is the first I’ve seen it on a dress hat like this. With the proportions it has, and its curled brim, today it would be called a homburg or a “Lords Hat”. It has a wide ribbon with a frayed-edge bow. The frayed trailing edge was a popular styling cue on hats of this era. Inside, the hat is unlined. The sweatband stampings indicate that it is a “Select Quality” felt, which sold for $7 in the early 1920s. This made it an expensive hat for the time period. It was sold in Jackson, TN by the G.H. Robertson Co.

1910s Stetson overwelt homburg

This vintage Stetson was made in the 1910s. It is a medium brown fur felt, in a transitional style somewhere between a fedora and a homburg. It has an overwelt brim edge (typical of fedoras), but with a more typically homburg style flange to the brim. There is a wide brown grosgrain ribbon. The trailing edge of the bow has a frayed edge, as was the style of the day.
Inside, the hat has a dark rose colored lining, with gold colored piping, and a detailed “Gold Medal” style imprint. The sweatband is a creamy beige, with a gold embossed Stetson logo, touting their gold medal victories in 1876, 1878, 1889 and 1900. The hat has premier quality felt. It was sold by Jos. Polczynski hatters, 9307 Jos Campau, near Holbrook, Hamtramck, MI. This would later become Henry the Hatter.
