This coat was made by Banana Republic as part of their now defunct Cabinwear line, which channeled western styles of the 1920s and 1930s. This coat is made in material reminiscent of Indian blankets of that period, with a classic zipper front cut.

This vintage style fair isle pullover sweater vest was made by Ralph Lauren as part of their Polo line. It is made of a camel hair, wool and lambswool blend.

This jacket was made by Ralph Lauren in 2006 as a sample. It is mid 1930s utility jacket style, termed by RL as a “Linesman’s Jacket”. Like originals, it has curved, slanted patch pockets and a zipper breast pocket. It has side adjuster belts with deco floral patterned buckles. There is a buttoned tab at the waistband. There is a Conmar grommet zipper, in the style of the original 1930s hardware. Cuffs are lined with corduroy, and the jacket is unlined. The buttons have been replaced with original 1930s catseye buttons.

This peacoat was made by Ralph Lauren and is a reproduction of the model worn in WWI. It has a ten button front, with both handwarmer and flapped cargo pockets. There is a short vent in the rear. The pockets are lined in corduroy. Buttons are reproductions of the 13 star buttons used on WWI coats, with the addition of the RL. The coat is fully lined, with two interior pockets.

This vintage coat was made by Lakeland. It is a 1920s- 1930s mackinaw style, with a shawl collar, buttoned patch pockets and a waist belt. This style was popularized in the 1910s by the Patrick mackinaw company of Duluth. They had a second boom in the 1920s-1930s as workwear, especially with railroad men. The simpler styling and navy blue wool of this one is more consistent with the 1920s-1930s ones.
It was designed by Jeffrey Banks in the late 1970s, and is a very good reproduction. Comparing it to originals in my collection from the era, it’s very close in terms of styling and cut. The interior of the coat is the real giveaway. While most of the originals were unlined, this has a luxurious quilted liner.

This coat was made in the late 1970s by Lakeland, and was designed by Jeffrey Banks, in the early days of his career. It is a classic double breasted peacoat/mackinaw style, made in red and black striped blanket material. The coat draws heavy influence from earlier decades and Lakeland products, like the 1947 “Jackinac”. The silhouette and material are straight out of the 1930s or 1940s, but updated with more modern luxuries like a quilted liner. The Lakeland x Jeffrey Banks line of the late 1970s and early 1980s was made up of these reproduction pieces, in the same way the current Ralph Lauren RRL line is today. This vintage coat was made by Lakeland in the late 1970s as a reproduction of a 1930s shawl collar mackinaw. Having compared it to originals in my collection, the detailing is very close. While the vibrant red color may seem like a modern twist on the design, it was one offered in the 1910s and 1920s by early companies producing this style, like F.A. Patrick, Duluth. The coat is double breasted, with a shawl collar, a buttoned belt, and large flapped patch pockets. It has a center vent, and has a warm quilted lining.

This jacket was made by Ralph Lauren under the Polo equestrian label. It is a reproduction of a jacket style popular from c. 1919 through into the 1930s, which would be adapted by the military into the A-1 flight jacket. The original civilian model of this jacket was defined by its knit collar, cuffs and waistband, and patch pockets. The style was originally a hunting/outdoorsman’s style, and was generally, though not always, made of leather. This reproduction is made of water resistant waxed cotton / oiled cotton, a material appropriate for the style, as it also shares the hunting / outdoorsman’s garment lineage. This jacket has two large patch cargo pockets, and a small functional ticket pocket. The jacket is lined with tartan flannel. Unlike many Ralph Lauren products, this jacket, made under the leather Polo Equestrian label was made in the USA,

This sportcoat was made in Italy about six years ago by Ralph Lauren under the Polo line. It is made of slubby corded cotton, with detailing straight out of the 1930s. It has pleated patch pockets, a pleated belted back and surgeons cuffs. It has a “petal” type skeleton lining, and mother of pearl buttons. It’s tagged a 42, but measures more like a 38.

These jeans were made by Ralph Lauren Polo. Their style in influenced heavily by the workwear styles of the 1920s and 1930s They are lightweight chambray with mother of pearl buttons. They have a button fly, suspender buttons and a buttoned rear pocket. There is a watch pocket with a keyhole buttonhole to but a t-bar watch chain through. They have plaid cotton pocketbags, a triple stitched inseam, and a lightly distressed finish, with faint “ink splatter”. They are tagged a size 34×32, but measure a 36×32.
