1930s Canvas Messenger Bag with Talon Grommet zippers

This vintage canvas messenger bag was made in the late 1920s-early 1930s. It is made of lightweight green canvas, now faded. It has a single button closure flap, a divided interior and a strap with a D ring adjustment At some point, the original owner, a Mr. R.G. Pease, decided that he wanted a zipper top to make the contents of the bag more secure and added a zipper top. Instead of adding a closed end zipper that you would normally use on bags, he added two separable bottomed jacket zippers, with the early grommet bottomed stopbox and double hinge, pinlock, round holed slider, folding the separable end of the zippers to the inside of the bag.

1940s Allen gabardine western cossack jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the late 1940s by the Allen Mfg. Co. of Denver Colorado. While Allen primarily made westernwear, this jacket seems to fit more into the mold of 1940s California sportswear. It is a waist length Cossack style, with pleated patch pockets. Their angled tops wrap around into the buttoned side adjuster belts. There is a single chest pocket with a Conmar chain zipper. The main zipper is a spring loaded Crown with the “two way” teeth developed by them during WWII. It has a bi-swing back.

1950s Lockshire gabardine overcoat

This vintage overcoat was made in the 1950s by Lockshire of Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is single breasted, with notch lapels. It has a vented back and slash handwarmer pockets. It is half-lined, as was customary at that point. The jacket has a fantastic label and a 1949 union tag. With a 48″ chest, this will best fit someone who wears a size 42 suit.

Hettrick American Field Half Moon hunting fishing vest

This vintage vest was made in the 1940s by the Hettrick Mfg. Co. of Toldeo, Ohio. It is what is now known as a “half-moon” style, named after its round game pocket access on the front. This vest was intended for flyfishers, and has a fly rod loop to hold your rod and a multitude of pockets. It is made of khaki colored canvas.

1970s Brill G-1 leather flight jacket

This vintage jacket was made by Brill Bros under the Mil-J-7823E G-1 contract. It is made of brown goatskin leather, with a brown mouton collar and knit cuffs. The wind flap is stamped USN and the jacket does up with a Scovill zip.

1950s Frankoat tweed Chesterfield overcoat

This vintage coat was made in the 1950s by Frank Bros under the Frankoat label. It was sold in Vincennes, Indiana by Albert’s, Inc. It is made of a gray tweed wool, with a velvet collar to give it that Chesterfield overcoat style. By the way it wraps from the front to the back of the collar, my guess would be that the velvet collar was added by a tailor after the coat’s initial manufacture. The coat has a plain back and cuffed sleeves.

1950s Brent norfolk jacket style coat

This vintage herringbone tweed jacket was made in the late 1950s and was sold by Montgomery Ward under their house label, Brent. It is a 1920s Norfolk style, with norfolk straps and an attached belt. The jacket has a warm pile lining and quilted sleeves.

1940s Hercules Aviator leather jacket

This vintage leather jacket was made c.1947 and was sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co under their Hercules label, used for leather jackets and workwear. The jacket is an “aviator” style, a style originated in the 1930s, and defined by its offset zipper front, coat style lapels, interesting pocket setup and usually by its fancy back. This example has handwarmer pockets, a chest mounted map pocket and an angled cuff detail with decorative buttons. The back is belted and has bi-swing shoulders. It has a scalloped back yoke. The main zipper is a Talon, identifiable as being made immediately post-war by its marked U shaped stop box design and square hole on the pull. The chest zipper is also a Talon, with a chain style pull and a transitional style slider. With a 42″ chest, this will best fit someone who wears a size 38.

Golden Fleece Half-belt leather jacket

This vintage leather jacket was made in the 1950s by Golden Fleece from heavy suede leather. The jacket has a half-belt back and a Conmar zipper front, with a surcoat-style zipper attachment at the bottom. The jacket has a suit style breast pocket. The jacket has a quilted lining.

1960s-1970s Beau Breed Cafe Racer leather jacket

This vintage leather cafe race motorcycle jacket was made by Beau Breed in the late 1960s- 1970s. It is made of brown steerhide, with two breast pockets, bi-swing shoulders, a band collar with two male snaps and one female. It has a late starting zipper, similar to Beck jackets. The main zipper is a Crown / Coats Clark and sleeve zippers are Serval. The jacket has a quilted lining with a corduroy strip at its base.
