1930s Red Head half-moon hunting vest

This vest was made in the 1930s by Red Head Brand, a high end maker of hunting and outdoorsman’s garments. This style has come to be known as a half-moon hunting vest, after the shape of its pass through pockets into the game pouch. Period advertisements generally referred to this style as a sleeveless jacket rather than as a vest. This one has pleated, flapped patch pockets on the front, as well as two patch pockets on the lining. The half-moons pass through to the roomy internal game pocket, which closes with a button.

This vintage jacket was made in the late 1930s. It was last used in Ohio in 1967. It’s typical for these hunting jackets, as items of utility rather than fashion, to have been in service for decades, and this one shows it, with many repairs and heavy wear.

made in the 1930s. It is made of canvas, with taped seams, heavy webbing straps, riveted to the bag, and with a buckle closure on one side to make taking the bag off and putting it on easier. There is a zippered pocket with an early style round hole Talon zipper, a re-tooling of earlier Hookless dies. The name Robert Brunelle is written inside the top of the bag.

This vintage coat was made in the 1950s for Sears Roebuck and Co under their Fieldmaster outerwear label. The coat is made of cotton canvas, with a 3/4 sheepskin lining, brown mouton collar, full belt and quilted sleeve linings. It has leather reinforcements at the corners of the handwarmer and flapped hip pockets, and loop closure for the buttons.

1960s Teller tweed norfolk jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the 1960s by Teller of Austria, for the export market. It is made of tweed, with a wool tattersall lining. The jacket is belted, with norfolk straps. The belt loops on the side are decoration, the belt is sewn to the jacket. At some point, the original owner swapped the buttons out for brass Navy buttons.

1930s Duxbak Mohawk canvas hunting jacket

This vintage hunting jacket was made in the 1930s by the Utica Duxbak company of Utica, New York under their Rainproofed Mohawk hunting and fishing label. It is made of canvas, with a corduroy collar and corduroy lined cuffs. The jacket has the early style double round pockets which share a common flap. It has bi-swing shoulders, integrated undearm gussets, and a front placket pass through to the game pocket, with scalloped reinforcement stitching, mirrored by the flaps on the side seams to the game pouch. The expanding game pouch is marked Patent Pending and closes with early manufacture United Carr snaps.

1950s Aero Wesco hunting jacket

This vintage mackinaw coat was made by the Aero Brand from wool from the Wesco Wool Pullery of Ellensburg, Washington. The jacket is a double mackinaw, with caped shoulders and double sleeves. It is made of heavy red and black plaid wool, with a plaid lining. The label has a four engined prop plane logo, which appears to be an early 1950s model. The jacket has snapped pockets and an internal game pocket, accessible through snapped vertical flaps on the side seams. The snaps are figural, with the image of the Spirit of St. Louis.
