1940s Dobbs 20 fedora

This vintage Dobbs fedora was made in the 1940s. It is a thin ribboned style, and originally sold for $20, making it an upmarket model at the time. It is a 6-7/8, has a 5-1/2″ crown, and at some point became the original owner’s fishing hat here in the rivers and streams of Montana.
1940s Portis Fedora

This vintage fedora was made in the 1940s by Portis. It is their “Crest” model. It has a wide brim with narrow binding, a teardrop crown and a mid-width ribbon with distinctively Portis mother of pearl ring in place of a traditional bow. It has a transitionally reeded sweatband, marked, “Portis – America’s Best Value”, “Swansback Water Repellent – Cushion Band”, and, “Montana’s Largest Mens Store – Weins – 33 35 37 E Park St. Butte”. The liner has the Portis logo and reads, “Portis – Fashioned By Hand – Swan’s Down Finish”.
1950s National Hatters Fedora

This vintage fedora was made by National Hatters in the early-mid 1950s and was sold at the Hat Box in Butte, Montana. It has a wide ribbon, overwelt brim edge and transitional reeded sweatband. It is a 7-1/4.
Resistol Double X cowboy hat

This vintage hat was made by Resistol in the 1950s. It is rare to come across these early Resistol westerns, and rare to find cowboy hats like this with a bound brim. As you can see from the fade line, it originally had a mid-with ribbon, much wider than usually found on westerns of this era. It has the early Resistol Western liner (Before westerns became Resistol’s bread and butter) and a brown leather sweatband. It was originally sold by Wolf Brothers of Omaha, Nebraska. It is a size 7-1/4.
1920s Gimbel homburg hat

This vintage hat was made in the late 1910s-1920s by Gimbel. It is a shallowly flanged homburg style, made in lightweight fur felt, and creased with a center dent and pinches. It has a wide ribbon with a feathered trailing edge, as was the fashion of the time, and narrow binding. The has has an unreeded sweatband with a taped rear seam- the stitching of the sweatband is still in tact. It is tagged a size 6-7/8.
1920s Warwick Homburg hat

This vintage homburg was made in the 1920s by Warwick. It is made of forest green fur felt, with a center dent and widely spaced front pinches. It has a wide ribbon with a feathered trailing edge, as was the popular style of the day. The hat has an unmarked unreeded sweatband and a silk lining.

1960s Dunlap open road hat
This vintage hat was made in the early 1960s by Dunlap, and was sold in uptown Butte, Montana by Jim Spier. The hat follows the traditional dressy western form, most famously sold by Stetson under the Open Road name, but made by many manufacturers before and since that name was coined. The style is defined by its narrowly bound, flanged brim and straight crown, usually with a cattleman’s crease. This one has a wind string. This hat has a black leather sweatband, stamped with the Dunlap logo, “Hand Felted by Master Craftsmen” and “Kashmir Finish”, stampings which they shared with the Champ brand-name.

This vintage fedora was made in the 1940s by Royal Scot and was sold by Jim Spier in Butte, Montana. The hat has a striped grosgrain ribbon, a bound brim and a teardrop crease. The brown leather sweatband is unreeded, and the hat has a fancy pleated lining.
