1920s Alexander Cowboy Hat

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271138169838

This vintage cowboy hat was made by the G.W. Alexander hat company of Reading, PA.  However, at least some of the components of the hat are sourced from the John B. Stetson company of Philadelphia, PA.  The sweatband bears the Stetson Lot number 6378.  At points in their history, Stetson owned the Alexander Hat Company, so this could explain this sharing.  The hat is a classic 1920s style, with a high crown, pencil curl brim and a Tom Mix crease. It has a wide grosgrain ribbon, a good quality fur felt body and a wide leather sweatband, which is still supple and in excellent condition.  The hat was sold in Lompoc, California by Arthur Randolph. At the time, Lompoc was primarily a mining town.  The hat is in very good condition, and in the many 1920s westerns I’ve sold, I would single this one out as the best of the bunch.

1939 dated A. Nash overcoat

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281050527362

This vintage overcoat was custom tailored in 1939 by the A. Nash Company of Cincinnati, Ohio.  It is a classic double breasted style, with a belted back. For some reason, someone has moved the buttons on the belt back to make it longer, but moving them back is a simple fix. It is half lined with a center vent. It has an early variant 1939 union tag which I have not seen outside of this coat.Chest: 24″Shoulder to shoulder: 19″Shoulder to Cuff: 26″    PhotobucketPhotobucket

DeLong sportswear jacket

http://www.ebay.com/itm/281050466717

This vintage jacket was made in the early 1950s by DeLong sportswear.  It is made of “Nylodeen”, a miracle fabric advertised heavily in the 1950s, which was a nylon-wool blend in a gabardine weave, designed to shed water more readily than a standard all wool gabardine. The pile collar of this coat was described in period advertisements as being a timme-mouton.  It has a front belt, a talon zipper and a quilted lining. It is tagged a size 40.Other than the color and size, the coat worn by Flick in “A Christmas Story” is nearly identical. Tagged size: 40Chest: 23″Shoulder to Shoulder: 18″Sleeve (shoulder to cuff): 23-1/2″    PhotobucketPhotobucket
