1930s Sam Stark half-belt

This jacket was made in the late 1930s-early 1940s and was sold in Cheyenne, Wyoming by Sam Stark. The jacket is a waist length, button front half-belt cossack style, with handwarmer pockets and side adjuster belts. The original buttons probably would have been brown bakelite or corozo, but were replaced sometime in the 1940s with metal military Wyoming state seal buttons. The backs of these buttons are marked “Superior Quality”. The cuffs do up with snap-belt adjusters. Inside one of the pockets I found an empty pack of Kool cigarettes with a 1944 copyright and a series 120 Dewitt Clinton tax stamp, dating the pack to 1950, and also helping set a probable date for the last time this jacket was worn.

1940s brown herringbone tweed overcoat

This vintage overcoat was made in the 1940s. It bears a 1939 Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America union tag, placing the dating between 1939 and 1949. The coat is made from bold brown herringbone tweed. It is single breasted, with wide notch lapels and flapped patch pockets. The coat is half-lined, as was typical in this era.

V for Victory WWII tie

This vintage tie was made in the 1940s. It is a green plaid with a white overcheck. The tie was silkscreened with white Vs for Victory and the dot dot dot dash morse code for the letter V (also Bethoven’s 5th). It measures3-1/2″ wide and 48″ long.

1947-1948 Lakeland Wagonwheel Jackinac XL

These Lakeland Wagonwheel Jackinac jackets were advertised heavily in 1947 and 1948, and appeared in Life Magazine. It is a twist on the classic red and black Hudson’s Bay point blanket style. It has a five button front. There is a zipped breast pocket, and shirt style cuffs. The zipper is an early style Talon chain zipper. The jacket is unlined and has taped seams. There is a nice recurrence of the stripe pattern on the underside of the collar.

Hollyvogue deer necktie

This vintage necktie was made in California in the late 1940s-early 1950s by Hollyvogue and was sold at Gold & Co in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is red, white and blue with an abstracted pattern of foliage and deer. It measures 4-1/2″ wide and 53″ long.

1940s Taylor’s California Desert Suedes capeskin leather vest

This vintage vest was made in the mid-late 1940s by Taylors of California out of russet colored capeskin. Despite being made of smooth leather, it bears the “Desert Suedes” label. It is a high-cut zip front vest, with size vent zips on the hips. There are handwarmer pockets as well as semi-concealed chest pockets in the front yoke seam. The vest has a plaid lining and salt-and-pepper pocket linings. The zipper, with its square holed slider and Talon branded stopbox help date this jacket to the years immediately after WWII, somewhere in the 1945-1949 range.

1940s Bond Executive overcoat

This vintage overcoat was made in the 1940s by Bond Clothes under the Executive Group label. It is a dark blue gray heavyweight wool, in a single breasted, notch lapel cut. The coat is half-lined, as was typical of overcoats of this era, and bears a 1939 union tag, putting the dating in the ’40s.

1940s Weyenberg Massagic shoes

These vintage shoes were made in the 1940s by Weyenburg under the Massagic Air Cushion Shoe label. They have the early 1933 patent arch support design, used c.1934 to 1949, seven eyelets, a pointy perforated captoe, closed lacing and seven eyelets. An update on the air cushioned Massagic arch support was designed in 1945 and rolled out in mid 1949, combined with period adverting, providing a solid latest date of production for these. They have flat cotton laces, channeled leather soles and BF Goodrich vogue heels.

This vintage raincoat was made in the 1930s, and from the specifics, was likely sold by Sears. It is made from black rubber, with a cord trimmed collar, back yoke and hook and eye closure. It is single breasted, with flapped pockets, a rear vent and rivets at all points of stress.

1940s Brazilian herringbone tweed jacket

This vintage jacket was made in Brazil and sold in the late 1940s-1950s. It is made of a bold herringbone tweed material, with a brown mouton collar. It was sold by Alfred – Kalil Sehbe S.A. – Camia Do Sul. European influence is also visible in the hardware. Though made in Brazil, the Astro brand zipper (with interesting stapled grommet style male end) does up on the left track as opposed to the American way of having it on the right. The jacket has a quilted lining.
