1930s leather and wool jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the late 1930s-early 1940s. It is a casual panel front design, with a suede leather front and colar detailing, and wool collar, sleeves and back. It has a knit waistband in the back, and a triple marked, decon sunburst stopbox Talon zipper, handwarmer pockets and sharply angled talon zipper closure breast pockets up front. It is fully lined.

Sleeve (center of collar to cuff): 34-1/4″

Length (base of collar to hem): 24″

Chippewa hunting jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the 1930s by the Chippewa Woolen Mills of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin from 100% wool. The red and black plaid wool is more of a shirt jacket weight rather than the more common super heavy mackinaw wool you generally see in this cut. This one’s perfect for layering. It has patch pockets, a plain back, is unlined, and has an interesting Talon zipper, with a sunburst slider and stopbox, placing the date around 1937-38.

Wanamaker Chesterfield Coat

This vintage overcoat was made in the 1930s and was sold by William H. Wanamaker of 1217-19 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA, a high end men’s store. It is a classic Chesterfield style overcoat, with a double breasted cut, downward sloping peak lapels, a 2×4 closure, breast pocket and velvet collar.

Reindeer fur boots

These vintage boots are European, made in the 1930s-1940s. I was sold they were reindeer fur when I bought them, and the look consistent with that to me. They have pegged leather soles and rubber covered heels. The square toe looks like ski boots of the period, but they do not have the grooved heel sides that I generally associate with that style. The sole measures 12-1/2″ long and 4-7/16″ wide.

Uber pullover leather jacket

This vintage jacket was made in Owatonna, Minnesota by Uber from deerskin leather. It is a pullover style, with a lace up front and side zipper. It has two C&C zip breast pockets and is lined. While the 44″ chest measurement would seem to suggest a size 40, trust me that with the pullover cut of this, it fits much better on a 36-38.

Polo Ralph Lauren beltback tennis jacket

This jacket was made in Italy for Ralph Lauren around 2007 and was sold under the Polo label. It is white with a slubby corded texture, pleated patch pockets and a belted back. It is half-lined, like the original 1930s jackets it is based on. While tagged a size 44, I’ve had a couple of these jackets over the years, and they’ve all run small. With a 44″ chest measurement, this best fits someone who wears a size 40.

Penney’s plaid coat

This vintage coat was made in the 1950s for Penney’s. It is made out of a beige wool with a napped surface and overcheck. It has a Talon zipper front and buttoned side adjusters.

Sportclad double breasted mackinaw

This vintage mackinaw was made in the late 1930s-early 1940s for Penneys and was sold under their Sportclad label. It is a blue-green and brown plaid, with a belt back, double breasted cut, has handwarmer and flapped cargo pockets, and as typical of these early coats, is unlined.

This coat was made in the USA for Ralph Lauren, and was sold under the Polo label. It has a mouton shawl collar, a double breasted cut, handwarmer pockets with leather reinforcement, flapped cargo pockets, and a buffalo plaid lining.

1940s Ballantyne shawl collar sweater

This vintage shawl collar sweater was made in the 1940s in Stratford on Avon, Ontario, Canda from Ballantyne pure wool. The style is basically unchanged from the shawl collar cardigans popular in the US in the 1920s. Canadians continued producing this style after the trend had passed in the United States, and these were very popular with Curlers.
