1940s USPHS bridge coat

This vintage bridge coat was made in the 1940s, during WWII for a director of the USPHS. It was made by SSS clothes and bears a 1939 union label. Unlike most bridge coats with their anchor buttons, this one has special medical buttons for its organisation, with a crossed anchor and Caduceus. There are four braids on the sleeve, which for the Navy would indicate a rank of Captain, and for the US Public Health Service denote a rank of Director.

1940s N-1 Deck Jacket

This vintage jacket is an an N-1 deck jacket, manufactured for the US navy. It is the light shade of olive drab, which has been further faded through usage. It has an alpaca pile rounded collar and lining. The collar had a extension throat latch / chin strap. The main zipper is an early two-way tooth large gauge Crown, with riveted top stops. It has handwarmer pockets, internal storm cuffs, a drawstring waist, and a buttoned placket over the zip.

1948 China Navy Souvenir jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the 1940s as a souvenir of a tour in China. It is a waist length wool jacket, with shirt style pockets and an extension tab waistband. The quality of the wool makes me think the jacket itself was Theatre made rather than a cut down uniform. It is embroidered with dragons on the insides of the cuffs, liberty cuff style, a junk and a rickshaw on the breast pockets, and a dragon on the back. The back reads, “Tsing Tao, Hong Kong, Shanghai, China, 1948”. The front of the jacket bears the original owner’s name, Don C. Yanders, who served aboard submarines during WWII and who was stationed in China in the immediate post-war years.

WWII USMC vest – China souvenir embroidery

This vintage vest was made in the late war period. It is green cotton with an alpaca pile lining. It has a mid-late 1940s round hole Talon zipper, and a full embroidered back with a dragon and the years 1945-1946.

WWII Alpaca Pile shawl collar coat

This vintage coat was made in the 1940s, and is an early USN deck coat. It takes its style from earlier sheepskin lined shawl collar box coats, but has an alpaca pile collar and lining, as well as a waterproof layer between the outer canvas and the inner lining. The pockets have leather reinforcements and there are leather loops instead of buttonholes, typical of this style.

WWII 10 button peacoat

This vintage coat was made in the 1940s for the US Navy by the Naval Clothing Factory. It is made of blue kersey wool. This is the WWII issue 10 button version, with anchor buttons and corduroy lined handwarmer pockets. It was issued to a K.J. Teceira.

1942 Officer’s short overcoat mackinaw

This vintage mackinaw was made to 1942 specifications, and was probably made in 1943. The official term was, Overcoat, Wool, Doeskin O.D. Officers Short Style. This was a successor to the shawl collar overcoats issued from the 1920s-early 1940s. I have one of those in a separate listing. The coat is double breasted, with flapped cargo pockets and epaulettes. It is fully lined.

1940s WWII Albert Turner Shawl Collar mackinaw coat

This vintage coat was made in late 1941 or early 1942 by Albert Turner, Inc. to 1941 specs for the officer’s short mackinaw coat. It is a size 36 R and has a shawl collar, epaulettes, flapped patch pockets, a six button double breasted front, and a buttoned belt. The coat is fully lined.

1930s-1940s canvas moneybelt

This vintage moneybelt was made in the 1930s-early 1940s. The style of pin-lock zipper with flat pull and symmetrical D shaped stops was more typical of mid-1930s manufacture, but from the period demand, I would guess this dates from the early part of WWII. It is made of canvas, with leather reinforcement and a selvedge webbing waistband.

1940s Palm Beach Goodall Springweave jacket

This vintage jacket was made by Goodall, creators of the famed Palm Beach Cloth from their Springweave fabric. Springweave was introduced in early 1944. Goodall changed their name and label to Goodall Sanford in late 1944, so this is a rare and precisely date-able piece of vintage. This was from the early formulation of Springweave fabric, which consisted of lightweight wool and mohair. It has a nice herringbone weave to the fabric, a two button cut, and patch pockets. The jacket was sold by the Stix, Baer and Fuller men’s store.
