1940s Ballantyne shawl collar sweater

This vintage shawl collar sweater was made in the 1940s in Stratford on Avon, Ontario, Canda from Ballantyne pure wool. The style is basically unchanged from the shawl collar cardigans popular in the US in the 1920s. Canadians continued producing this style after the trend had passed in the United States, and these were very popular with Curlers.

This vintage curling sweater was hand knit in the 1960s. It has green and yellow curling stone and broom motifs on a cream background.

1920s All Weather All Wool Coat shawl collar cardigan

This vintage cardigan sweater was made in the 1920s. It is made of heavy Shaker Knit wool, with a shawl collar and a six button front. The buttons are corozo. The label reads, “The All Weather All Wool Coat”. At the time this was made, coat referred to any garment with full buttoning, hence coat sweaters and coat shirts. It has a finely knit red and white striped wool lining inside the chunky wool exterior.

Alaska hand knit cowichan sweater

This vintage sweater was made in the late 1960s-1970s. It is green with a polar bear and “Alaska” on the back. It does not have a zipper or buttons, though one could easily be added, and is fully lined, though the lining is not sewn down at the cuffs or hem.

RRL sweater

This sweater was made by Ralph Lauren under the high end RRL label, and is influenced heavily by the two tone, zip front, raglan shoulder cardigans popular in the late 1930s-1940s. It is made of cotton and has RiRi zippers.

1940s Thermo Knit sweater

This vintage sweater was made by thermo and bears a silkscreened satin patch with a winged horsehead and the letters N A F H.

1950s Suprina two tone fraternity collegiate sweater

This vintage sweater was made by Valley Stream under the Suprina’s Sportland label (service by sportsmen). It is two tone green and cream, with white buttons and a felt Theta Gamma Chi patch, from the now defunct fraternity. The Right sleeve has been rolled under and stitched to shorten it for some reason.

This vintage cardigan was made in the 1960s. It is made from rust colored wool, with a brass Talon zipper. It has elbow patches and heavy wear and damage throughout.

1960s horse themed curling sweater

This vintage sweater was hand-knit in the 1960s. It has an equestrian theme, with a horse head on the back and a horseshoe on the front. It has the original owner’s name, Bill, knit into the pattern. The cardigan has a Talon zipper, of the design which was used starting in the late 1950s.
