1950s Sears Hercules shawl collar sheeplined coat

This vintage coat was made in the 1950s for Sears Roebuck and Co under their Fieldmaster outerwear label. The coat is made of cotton canvas, with a 3/4 sheepskin lining, brown mouton collar, full belt and quilted sleeve linings. It has leather reinforcements at the corners of the handwarmer and flapped hip pockets, and loop closure for the buttons.

Sleeve (shoulder to cuff): 25-1/2″
Length (base of collar to hem): 34″

1930s Sears Hercules plaid work jacket

This vintage plaid mackinaw coat was made in the mid 1930s for Sears under the Hercules workwear label. This coat was also made under the Fieldmaster hunting label for Sears at the same time, however the hunting version has a game pouch, while this, the workwear version, does not. The coat is made from red and black plaid mackinaw cloth, with double shoulders and two-way pockets (top entry cargo pockets over side entry handwarmers). As was typical of work coats of this period, it is unlined.

This vintage mackinaw coat was made in the late 1930s for Sears under its Hercules label. It is wool plaid in a double breasted cut, with handwarmer pockets and flapped cargo pockets. As is typical of these earlier production mackinaws, it is unlined.

This vintage mackinaw coat was made in the early 1940s for Sears under its Hercules label. It is wool plaid in a double breasted cut, with handwarmer pockets and flapped cargo pockets. It has a plaid lining, a feature Sears introduced in its mackinaws around 1941. By the post-war period, many mackinaws sold by Sears had switched over to a quilted lining, and the design of the Hercules label had changed.

Sears – Simpsons Wearmaster mackinaw

This vintage coat was made in the early 1950s for Simpsons-Sears under the WearMaster label. This Canadian-market mackinaw is a style popular from the 1930s-1950s with very few changes. It is double breasted, with broad lapels, handwarmer pockets, flapped cargo pockets and a full belt. The lining and label design distinguish this one from the earlier manufacture models.

1930s black rubber raincoat

This vintage raincoat was made in the 1930s, and from the specifics, was likely sold by Sears. It is made from black rubber, with a cord trimmed collar, back yoke and hook and eye closure. It is single breasted, with flapped pockets, a rear vent and rivets at all points of stress.

1940s Hercules Aviator leather jacket

This vintage leather jacket was made c.1947 and was sold by Sears, Roebuck and Co under their Hercules label, used for leather jackets and workwear. The jacket is an “aviator” style, a style originated in the 1930s, and defined by its offset zipper front, coat style lapels, interesting pocket setup and usually by its fancy back. This example has handwarmer pockets, a chest mounted map pocket and an angled cuff detail with decorative buttons. The back is belted and has bi-swing shoulders. It has a scalloped back yoke. The main zipper is a Talon, identifiable as being made immediately post-war by its marked U shaped stop box design and square hole on the pull. The chest zipper is also a Talon, with a chain style pull and a transitional style slider. With a 42″ chest, this will best fit someone who wears a size 38.

Early 1940s Sears topline leather jacket

This jacket was made in the early to mid 1940s and was sold by Sears under their Topline label, which they used for leather jackets primarily during the years of WWII. The jacket is made of capeskin leather, smooth side out for the collar and lapels and rough side out for the body and sleeves. The jacket is cut like a sportcoat. It is unvented and has a sporty flapped breast pocket. The jacket is fully lined, and has the Sears Topline Sportswear label inside. Inside the pocket is a 1939 union label and the original size tag.

1920s Fieldmaster half moon hunting vest

This vintage vest was made in the late 1920s. It was sold by Sears under the Fieldmaster Gun Coats label. This label design is the early version used by Sears during this period. In the 1930s, these were mostly sold under the Double Duty label, and had slightly different detailing. The vest (or sleeveless coat as period ads always refer to these as) has an interior game pocket with a belt adjuster. The half moon pocket gives front access to this pocket. The shoulders are reinforced and the vest has two large wraparound bellows pockets.

1950s Western Roebucks jacket

This vintage western jacket was made in the 1950s and was sold by Sears under the Roebuck’s label. Roebucks was, at the time, their house brand for westernwear- mostly jeans and denim jackets, but also fancier items like this. I have had several other jackets made by the same manufacturer (same factory labels, same cut and detailing), all sold under different store labels, so somewhere there was a factory producing these to be sold under house labels. The jacket is made of tweed and has peak lapels, a scalloped front yoke, pleated front and scalloped pocket flaps. The back has a fancy yoke and deep dual pleats. It is fully lined, and according to the tag, the model name was the Guardsman.
