This vintage jacket was made in the 1950s for Ario’s of Great Falls, Montana (serving the stockman since 1897). Ario’s was founded by Victor Ario as a saddlery, and developed into a full outfitter. Ario’s son, who took over the business, retired in 1957 and the company became the H Bar O saddlery. From the styling of this jacket, I would put it in the mid 1950s timeframe. It has the typical styling of a western jacket, heavy weight fabric, peak lapels, bi-swing shoulders and a square bottom. This one is made of striped blanket material. The pattern is similar to Pendleton’s Glacier National Park blanket or a Hudson’s Bay point blanket, though the stripes are out of order from the arrangement found on those mills, so I’m not positive what company produced the fabric. The yoke work is some of the most detailed I’ve seen, with sharp cutaways, and is mirrored on the design of the pocket flaps. The jacket is fully lined, and has a model tag reading, Montana.

This vintage vest was made in New Mexico from Chimayo indian blanket / rug fabric. It was tailored and sold by Pioneer wear. the vest has a denim back with a western style yoke and is fully lined. There are stitch marks from what appears to have been a larger label behind the Pioneer Wear one,. Unlike many of these square bottomed Chimayo vests, this one has buttonholes instead of loops.

This vintage western jacket was made in the 1950s under the Lasso Western Wear label. It is single breasted, with peak lapels, scalloped, buttoned pocket flaps, and a bi-swing action back. It is made of brown on brown blanket material, similar to that produced by the Hudson’s Bay company. This one is lighter weight than that fabric, but has the same coloration and napped texture. According to the tag, the model name is the Mr. Mak. The details, particularly the shape and width of the lapels, identify this as a 1950s example. Looking through Lasso Western Wear catalogs of the period, by the early 1960s, while the overall cut was similar, the lapels had narrowed greatly, and the peak had been largely overtaken by the notch in popularity.

This vintage jacket was made by Jay-Bar-Are brand. It is made of wool gabardine in a half-belt style.Despite the western brand name, the style itself is essentially a fabric version of the horsehide leather jackets of the 1930s and 1940s. The back is belted, with a center pleat. The pleat has an arrowhead reinforcement stitching detail at its top. There are side adjuster belts with D-rings. The front has handwarmer pockets and a zipped breast pocket. The zippers are all rare Waldes brand, they style produced in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
Staining to lining. Missing second buttons on cuffs. Male zipper tape missing prong and should probably be replaced. Moth bites and wear, concentrated under left arm and on front of jacket by the zipper. See photos

This vintage vest was made by Pendleton woolen mills of Portland, Oregon, out of one of their famous blankets. The tag reads ” High Grade Westernwear”. It has a black background with shades of green, red, purple and brown. The buttons are southwestern sunbeam patterned. It seems to run a bit small from the 38 size tag, please refer to the measurements provided.
