1930s-1940s Penney’s Brown Tweed Suit

This vintage suit was made in the late 1930s – mid 1940s and was sold by the J.C. Penny Co., Inc. It is made of flecky brown Donegal Tweed, in a three button cut. The jacket has a purple half-lining. There is a faded union label in the pocket, unfortunately now illegible. The patns have buttons for braces, dropped narrow belt loops and a Serval zipper. They are cuffed.

Sleeve (shoulder to cuff): 23″
Length (base of collar to hem): 28-1/2″

Waist (side to side): 15″ (doubled = 30″)
Outseam: 40″

1940s Benchly Double Breasted suit jacket

This vintage jacket was made by Benchly and was sold by Lowenson’s of Portland, Oregon. It is double breasted and bears a 1939 union label.

1970s Fit-U beltback suit jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the 1970s by Fit-U Clothes for Gordons Isnor Limited, which had locations in Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada. The jacket has a belted back, scalloped pocket flaps, with the one on the chest serving a purely decorative purpose. The jacket is half-lined.

1940s tweed sportcoat

This vintage tweed jacket was made in the 1940s. It is made of an oatmeal and brown striped tweed, similar in pattern to what was used on Fender tweed amps. It is single breasted, with three leather knot buttons, no vent, and patch pockets. The jacket is half lined and has no tags. The leather buttons may be replacements, as there is a bag with smaller matching leather cuff buttons in the pocket which have not been sewn on.

1920s Herringbone suit jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the late 1920s. It is made of black wool with a small herringbone pattern. It is single breasted, with a three button front. The jacket is fully lined with striped sleeve linings. It has surgeon’s cuffs.

1930s Belgian men’s single breasted peak lapel jacket

This vintage jacket was made on December 2, 1933 by C. Vrancken, located at 83, Rue de la Limite, Bruxelles (Brussels), Belgium. The jacket is heavy weight, and has high peak lapels and a three button front. It is ventless, and fully lined with striped sleeve linings.

1930s German Stresemann jacket single breasted peak lapel

This vintage jacket was made in Germany in the early 1930s. It has highly positioned, sharply pointed peak lapels, tailored with the lapel sewn to the collar. It has moderately roped shoulders, steeply back-slanted shoulder seams, and widely spaced silk covered buttons, making the lounge jacket cut more formal. The jacket is fully lined with striped sleeve linings.

1950s H Bar C western jacket

This vintage jacket was made in the 1950s by noted western wear manufacturer, H Bar C ranchwear. It has razor sharp peak lapels, a squared off cutaway, patch pockets with scalloped, buttoned pocket flaps, a three button front, and a western scalloped yoke. It bears a 1949 amalgamated clothing workers of america label, with the pre (R) variant that dates it between 1949 and 1961. With the overall styling, I would place the dating at the tail end of the 1950s.

Early 1940s Sears topline leather jacket

This jacket was made in the early to mid 1940s and was sold by Sears under their Topline label, which they used for leather jackets primarily during the years of WWII. The jacket is made of capeskin leather, smooth side out for the collar and lapels and rough side out for the body and sleeves. The jacket is cut like a sportcoat. It is unvented and has a sporty flapped breast pocket. The jacket is fully lined, and has the Sears Topline Sportswear label inside. Inside the pocket is a 1939 union label and the original size tag.

1930s Style Mart Granite Cloth suit

This vintage suit was made in the late 1930s-early 1940s by Style Mart Clothes for the Edward C. Pease Co. of The Dalles, Oregon. It is made of granite cloth, in that distinctive blue/green shade, with subtle rust red and blue stripes. The jacket is single breasted, with a nicely suppressed waist and notch lapels. It is unvented. The suit comes with two pairs of pants, both identical. They are flat front, cuffed, with an early Talon zipper fly and a 1-1/2″ waistband. The cuffs have been let down at some point, but not pressed.
