There were a lot of straw hats made in the golden era of hat wearing and beyond. And there were a lot of cheap ones. Cardboard or vinyl sweatbands that crack and harden and warp horribly in heat and moisture. Floppy, saggy or rock-hard materials. This falls into that category. A one-seasoner.
This Dobbs was probably from the ’70s or ’80s. It has a pleated “shark gill” type ribbon, a stingy brim, and a surprisingly untapered crown for its dimensions. ’60s meets ’30s in the ’80s.
I found this one in an antique shop in Fells Point, Baltimore, Maryland. With a name like “Harmony Tone”, it’s perfect for musicians. Stingy brim, low, tapered crown. A very 1960s hat.
Bee’s answer to the Stetson Open Road. Thin ribbon, wind string, bound brim. Center dent. Fancy pleated lining. This hat’s probably from the 1950s. It claims to be “custom made” but just how “custom” it really was- who knows?

This 1930s or early 1940s tweed jacket is an unusual blue color, and has fantastic green swirled buttons. Peak lapels are always a good decision.
Not just one of the most influential architects of the 20th century, but a mighty snappy dresser. Soft collar, soft tweed three piece peak lapel suit, mother of pearl button cufflinks. I’m sure his trademark low porkpie crowned western hat was just off camera. Comfortable and sharp as a tack.
