A lightweight, unlined, ventilated Mallory from the ’50s. Thin ribbon and raw edge. A good soaking of this hat took out enough dirt to make it about half the weight it was when I bought it.
This one dates from around 1942 or thereabouts, going by the style of size tag, which Stetson stopped using around then, and from the store it was sold at, which opened at about the same time.
This one felt like pure beaver. At $40 new, that wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Not surprisingly, it was originally sold by shudde bros., who in my experience used to sell extremely high quality hats.
